About Counselling

 Psychotherapy and Counselling

Psychotherapy and Counselling help you gain greater insight and understanding into your thoughts, feelings and actions, this process enables you to have greater freedom to make the choices you want in life. I will listen in a non-judgmental and unbiased way and will provide a safe ad confidential space for you to explore any issues and feelings which may be difficult to discuss with others.

By gently exploring your present experience you can gain a greater awareness of who you are and what you need. Psychotherapy and counselling can help make new connections that can lead to a greater understanding of your past which allows you to move forward into a better future. Through this supportive relationship, habitual ways you may experience yourself can be gradually explored. This process leads to a greater freedom and range of possibilities in your life and in your relationships.

Counselling or Psychotherapy?
Counselling is generally shorter term and often aimed towards a specific goal. Psychotherapy is generally longer term and seeks to look in depth at patterns of behaviour and ways of feeling that may have their origins in childhood.

What to expect.
In the initial session we will spend time clarifying your issues and what you hope to gain from counselling or psychotherapy. Together we will decide whether you could benefit from some sessions. Usually I offer six sessions which are generally weekly, after which we review progress and decide if longer term could be of benefit. The initial session gives you the opportunity to meet me and to find out whether working with me might benefit you. Attending an initial session does not mean you are obliged to continue with further sessions.

Supervision provides a safe and supportive space for practitioners to reflect on their practice. I see supervision as a co-operative and facilitating process which enables the supervisee to feel supported in their work and to develop and grow professionally. I have completed further training in supervision with Metanoia in London.

Confidentiality and My Code of Ethics
Everything a client shares with me directly or by inference is treated by me as strictly confidential. The only exception to this would be if I have grounds to believe a client or someone else is in danger of harm.

I subscribe to the Codes of Conduct for the following professional bodies. Each has a procedure for handling any complaint.
